My name is Evans Otieno Ongidi. After completing my undergraduate studies in 2023, By God's grace, I was honored to receive a scholarship from the University of Embu to pursue a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics. This marked the beginning of a transformative chapter in my academic and professional journey. During my coursework, I had the privilege of job shadowing in the newly established Office of Career Services under the mentorship of Dr. Marilyn Ronoh. Her guidance was instrumental in shaping both my academic and career path. In February 2025, during the university’s inaugural Career Week, I interacted with professionals from various fields and was inspired by a powerful session on career planning led by Coach Colleta Macharia from Cogent Afrique. With the support of Dr. Marilyn and the office of career services, I enrolled in the “Career GPS” coaching course offered by Cogent Afrique. This program equipped us with essential skills from preparing career tools to navigating the job market and professional growth. Soon after, I applied for my first job and was successful in my very first interview! I’m deeply grateful to Dr. Marilyn, the Office of Career Services, Cogent Afrique team, Coach Colleta, my Career GPS peers, and the University of Embu for their immense support. This continuing journey proves that with the right mentorship determination and opportunities, success is within reach.
